DISCOVERING GARFAGNANA + GPX TRACK

Today we take you to discover a Giratina created by Padbike near Castelnuovo in Garfagnana. The Giratine are guided MountainBike excursions organized by Padbike together with our guides in which we discover the most fascinating places in Tuscany!
This Giratina in particular is a challenging excursion suitable only for the most experienced bikers.
In any case, we remind you that Padbike organizes guided excursions of all levels of difficulty and types!
After onebrief overview of the excursion made by our two local guides Michele and Damiano, we started from Castelnuovo in Garfagnana, a magnificent village nestled between the Apuan Alps and the Apennines towards Piana della Croce.
The climb is mainly on asphalt, but some sections are very steep. However, as we rise in altitude the temperature drops significantly, thus giving us shelter from the summer heat.
Luckily, during this circular excursion there is no shortage of water points where you can refresh yourself and refill your water bottles. Once the asphalt is finished we proceed along a single trail across a ridge known as the "Gothic Line": a line of trenches used during the First World War.
Once we reach the highest point of this guided Giratina, after having covered almost 900m of positive altitude difference, a small snack and a well-deserved rest await us.
Finally the time has come for the descent. A very long single trail awaits us with many technical passages that require great attention. The path alternates between rocky and earthy sections within the pine and beech forest. In some sections the slope becomes steep and the leaves make everything more difficult.
After the first long single trail downhill, we go up a short stretch and then take a second simpler and smoother path, but with some very tight curves.
Once the last path has been completed, we return to Castelnuovo in Garfagnana where we have an excellent ice cream at one of the local ice cream parlors
